welcome to my world…
In my first blog, I am going to write about folklore music. Folk music is a form of traditional music that is rooted in the customs of a tribe or region and reaches out to generations to come.
If we listen to the music of different lands and ethnicity, we will notice their differences. These differences in the type of music can be due to the climatic, historical, customs, etc. differences that have manifested themselves in the folk or folk music of the land.
Folk music is a type of music that exists in any community and is in addition to traditional or classical music. Folk musicians and singers have not received academic training, and their songs, rhythms, and melodies are shaped by the conditions in society’s culture.
What are the Folk Music Content and Features?
- Folklore is rooted in ancient heritage and civilizations.
- Folklore is not accompanied by any scientific method or rational reasoning, and no teacher teaches it.
- Folklore comes from common practices and behaviors in community groups.
- Folk music describes the prevailing conditions of society.
- It can contain romantic, festive, cheerful or mystical content.
Sometimes the content of folk songs is related to the conditions in society. For example, in some of the songs, the role of agriculture and animal husbandry is well illustrated, indicating that the song is related to the region in which agricultural and livestock work is prevalent.
Lullabies, the song of mothers and grandmothers, is also considered a kind of folk music for sleeping with their baby.
In folk or folk music one can see the role of literature, feelings, beliefs, and the lives of the past in general.
In folk music, most of the wildlife, such as waterfalls, plains and green valleys, blossoms of trees, spring and fall, and even winter burns, are featured.
The Importance of Folk Music:
A country’s rich cultural and artistic reserves of folk music will be passed down to future generations. At the same time, it helps us to understand national and popular values historically, economically, socially and culturally.
The folk songs performed in folk music are closely intertwined with the cultural aspects of society, and in the context of these songs, the traditions, values , and beliefs of the community are endorsed or criticized.
Here I shared you a sample of my home-country traditional music,Persian one.
Enjoy and live the rhythm…
